Volunteers and donors get Clarkfield ice rink running; public works lists repairs and infrastructure issues

Mayor Darrin Johnson and Public Works Director Troy Bruflat reported that the city ice rink is operational after volunteer effort and private donation. Johnson thanked Troy and public works staff and said he "wasn’t expecting this level of excitement," noting that Amy Johnson from Fagen donated two hockey goals and two buckets of pucks.

Public Works Director Troy Bruflat credited volunteers, including Mayor Darrin Johnson and Councilmember Kevin Kaatz, for helping get the rink running and said he has received positive feedback and possible future donations. Bruflat also provided routine public works updates: city Christmas decorations will be taken down with winter decorations remaining, the Care Center Ford truck is slated for disposal, the hydraulic cylinder on the broom needs repair, the plow truck water pump has been repaired, wastewater sampling for the year is complete, and he plans to register for a wastewater class in March.

Bruflat also reported a missed sewer line from the 2020 infrastructure project and that he is coordinating with Bollig to reconnect the line; he explained the issue was not noticed earlier because the building was vacant during the original project.

Council did not receive public comment on these reports during the meeting.
