Littleton board advances Kelly Callo as health director, pending Select Board approval

The Littleton Board of Health voted unanimously on June 24 to advance Kelly Callo as the town's next health director, subject to a background check and approval by the Select Board. The board recorded a roll-call vote in which Kevin Davis, Libby Donigan, Matt Wson and acting Chair Dan Kaine each voted yes.

The motion as amended stated an effective hire date of July 13, 2026, at grade 16 step 7, contingent on Select Board approval and standard pre-employment screening. Board members reiterated that the town's human-resources office conducted the search and ran the interview process. One member told the public that 12 candidates had applied and that Kelly "rose to the top very, very quickly." The board noted HR's role and the requirement that hires above certain step levels must be confirmed by the Select Board.

Kelly Callo spoke from a car after the vote. "My name is Kelly Callo. I am currently the health director in Carlilele. I am looking forward to coming to Littleton," she said, adding she hopes to "continue the great work that the Littleton Board of Health has been doing."

The board asked staff to confirm that the appointment would appear on the Select Board agenda for July 13 so the candidate's start date could follow that confirmation. No amendments to the motion were recorded beyond clarifying the effective date and the subject-to-Select-Board condition.

Next steps: the hire is subject to the town's standard background and administrative steps and final approval by the Select Board at its July 13 meeting. The board noted HR and town administration handled the search and that the public had been invited to ask questions about the process.
