Melinda Hedman, presenter on the ambulance replacement item, told the council that the ambulance’s engine is “completely seized up” and that local repair estimates from Schweiter’s Ford and R&R Diesel ranged from about $23,000 to $30,000. She also provided staffing and call-volume context, saying there were 94 ambulance calls in 2025, 72 of them in Clarkfield, and that two EMTs are retiring while three trainees are expected to be ready in the coming months.
Councilmember Lisa Tilney moved to approve the PSV demo ambulance purchase for $333,921; Craig Giles seconded the motion, which the council approved.
Melinda told the council the squad voted to replace the ambulance and that PSV’s demo unit could be delivered within about 30 days; new vehicles from manufacturers would have a two- to three-year lead time. Council members were told there are sufficient funds in the ambulance account to cover the purchase and that additional fundraising will continue to support the ambulance program.
The council did not record a roll-call tally in the minutes beyond “motion carries.” The next procedural step is to complete the purchase paperwork with PSV and arrange delivery; fundraising and crew staffing were identified as ongoing operational matters.
