On April 20 the Eveleth City Council approved a range of community-focused items: a 25% camping-fee discount for Habitat for Humanity, purchase of 20 community garden beds, a Center Ice Park sign and branded door pulls, and modest increases to golf-course rates.
Jerry explained past practice for Habitat fee reductions and recommended a 25% discount even though Habitat is not building in Eve this year; councilors said they wanted to reserve larger discounts for years when work occurs in-city. The council also confirmed six park sites are available for Habitat’s use and approved the discount by voice vote.
Council authorized buying 20 locally made garden beds to pilot a community garden near the community center, with the city providing soil and rain barrels; leases will be offered to residents and the city will assess demand for expansion after the first season.
The council approved a Center Ice Park sign as the first step in a broader branding effort (referencing the towns hockey heritage) and added optional hockey-stick–style door pulls for municipal buildings, targeting installation by July 4.
On recreation fees, the golf-course committee recommended small increases to keep rates competitive; councilors noted the last increase was in 2023 and that children 12 and under were left at the same price to encourage youth participation. All motions carried by voice vote.
The council directed staff to post updated rates and program details on the city website and to have parks staff review campground rates at year end.
