The Eveleth City Council on March 2 authorized a $10,000 fund balance to cover immediate and early needs at the new community center, such as additional tables and supplies, and announced a public grand opening for March 14.
Councilors said early bookings showed demand for the facility and that funds will cover short-term needs as staff learn what equipment and layout adjustments are required. Mayor Rowan outlined the March 14 schedule: activities for youth beginning at 9 a.m., a ribbon cutting at 11 a.m., and a Bean Bake tournament starting at noon.
Council members also announced that the community center will begin weekday morning programming for seniors and other daytime visitors starting March 16, with staff present to coordinate activities. Staff noted weekend rentals are already being requested.
The council approved the fund and encouraged residents to visit the center, provide suggestions and consider private or weekend rentals.
