The Planning & Zoning Commission voted to recommend that city council vacate remnant portions of North Front Street and Debuke Street north of Cherry Street to tidy parcel lines ahead of a planned civic campus subdivision.
Staff explained the alignments were altered during the Debuke Street improvement and realignment project and that remnants of the old street remain technically recorded as right‑of‑way. "We are in the process of cleaning up some of the lines left over there," staff said, and described the technical conveyance process (the right‑of‑way is held in public trust now and an ordinance with three readings at council will invite public comment before transfer).
Staff clarified the map in front of the commission and said parcels labeled A and B had already been conveyed to neighboring property owners, leaving parcels C and D under consideration for vacation. Commissioners asked whether vacating the right‑of‑way would alter plaza or park designations; staff said existing improvements and park designations would not change and that the city would likely receive any conveyed fee interest.
A motion to accept the listed findings and forward the vacation request to city council with a recommendation for approval was moved and seconded; the motion carried. The council will hold the public hearing and consider ordinance readings before any transfer of title.
