Highway report: paving progress, $22,534 insurance settlement accepted and equipment actions approved

Highway Superintendent Donnie Lueken told the Commissioners on June 16 that chip‑seal and fog‑seal work on several county roads is complete or nearly complete and that crews expect to finish overlays and patches this week pending weather.
Lueken reported a DeWalt grease gun had broken and requested authority to declare it surplus; the board approved the disposition. He also reported that a farmer damaged the chip seal on 75W and 1st Street in Huntingburg, the farmer’s insurer paid $22,534 for repair costs and the board unanimously authorized acceptance of the insurance check and allowed Superintendent Lueken to sign on behalf of the County.
Separately, the board approved purchase of a 2008 Kubota M5040 tractor for $10,000 to be owned and insured by the County; the 4‑H Council will reimburse half the cost. The County Attorney will prepare a bill of sale.
Lueken raised the City of Jasper’s planned sanitation sticker price increase (from $1.50 to $2.00 per bag) and requested more data before the Commissioners decide whether to raise county sticker prices to maintain site buildings and dumpsters; the board asked for additional information before acting.
All motions recorded in the highway section passed unanimously.
