Commissioners forward multiple 2026 budget requests — Solid Waste, SIRS, 4‑H and others included pending County Council approval

During its June 16 meeting the Dubois County Commissioners heard 2026 budget presentations from several county departments and outside organizations and agreed to include the requests in the Commissioners’ proposed 2026 budget, subject to County Council or Department of Local Government Finance review.
Solid Waste Management Director Carla Striegel‑Winner requested a $283,000 appropriation for the district; the board approved including that amount in the 2026 Commissioner budget pending County Council approval. SIRS requested $40,000 (same as 2025) after reporting services for 317 residents, 45,369 service hours and 5,965 Link‑N‑Go one‑way trips; the board agreed to include $40,000 pending County Council approval.
The 4‑H Council requested $145,000 for the annual allocation and provided an update on building repairs and donations; the Treasurer provided May financials and the board agreed to include the $145,000 request pending County Council action. The Habig Community Center asked to increase Older Americans funding from $20,000 to $25,000; the board agreed to include $22,000 in the Commissioners’ budget pending County Council approval.
Soil & Water Conservation District leaders also presented a 2026 budget for inclusion. LifeSpring Health Systems presented operational updates, described four county residential group homes and the Hope Center (a 24‑bed residential treatment facility opened June 2024); the board reached consensus to approve an appropriation to be determined by the Department of Local Government Finance in July 2025.
Because of meeting length, broader 2026 budget preparations were tabled.
Most funding decisions noted in the minutes are conditional on County Council approval or, in LifeSpring's case, Department of Local Government Finance determinations.
