Dubois County Council raises County Engineer pay range and approves amended salary ordinance

The Dubois County Council on May 19 approved changes to the County Engineer’s compensation, raising the PAT VI wage-range maximum to $57.70 and adopting an amended salary ordinance that sets the position’s bi-weekly pay at $4,615.38, effective June 9, 2025.
Auditor Sandra L. Morton told the council the current PAT VI wage range was $36.52–$52.36 and asked to raise the maximum to $57.70. President Michael W. Kluesner moved to approve the change; Ryan Craig seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.
To cover payroll and benefits tied to the adjustment, the council approved an additional appropriation of $5,850 from the Cum Bridge Fund for the County Engineer (salary $4,921.39; FICA $377.00; PERF $551.61). Ryan Craig moved the appropriation; Alex P. Hohl seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
The council also adopted an amendment to the Salary Ordinance establishing the County Engineer’s pay at $4,615.38 bi-weekly. Auditor Morton said the position will be funded from both the Highway MVH fund and the Cum Bridge fund. The ordinance sets the regular workday at 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., eight-hour days, a 30-minute unpaid meal period, and notes the position is exempt and may work a flexible schedule to meet county needs.
The council did not record dissent. The wage increase will begin on June 9, 2025, and department staff were directed to reflect the change in payroll processing and 2026 budget materials where applicable.
