The Eveleth City Council voted May 18 to provide a letter of support for the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa's application for SS4A (Safe Streets and Roads for All) funds to improve safety at two intersections on Minnesota Highway 169.
Pat, referencing a county traffic engineer's materials, said the application proposes public-safety improvements that could include reconfiguring the intersections and building roundabouts. Councilmembers said the project may not be inside Eveleth's municipal limits but that many local residents and their families travel the corridor regularly, supporting a regional safety case.
The council approved a voice vote in favor of the letter of support. No city funding or specific commitments were discussed at the meeting; the action was limited to endorsing the Bois Forte Band's pursuit of federal safety funding.
