City engineer Alan told the council the line pumps wastewater from the city's lift station up the hill to a mini lift station and then to the wastewater treatment plant. He said the line has experienced roughly 20 breaks over the last 20 years and that the new work will shore up the system so the city avoids further failures.
Public Works Director Jerry and Alan said the design package is complete and that the next step is issuing final drawings and bid documents. The project, Alan said, combines funding sources including a CPG, PRB and RRB award (three separate funding streams identified by staff) and is ready to be advertised.
Council unanimously moved and carried the authorizing motion. No vote tallies by name were recorded in the transcript beyond the voice vote that the motion carried.
If approved through bidding, staff said the work will replace the aging force main and reduce the frequency of emergency repairs and sewage releases. Councilmembers praised the multi-source funding and said using external grants and programs reduced the city's levy impact.
The council made no changes to the scope at the meeting and instructed staff and Bolton & Menk to proceed with the call for bids.
