EVELETH CITY — Eveleth City Councilors on Feb. 17 approved fee schedules, waivers and several minor purchases to prepare the city’s new community center for public use and set a free grand‑opening open house for March 14.
The council accepted a staff recommendation to adopt standard waivers for certain users (for example bounce-house operators) and to make a limited set of minor purchases such as door sweeps and other items identified by a pest-management inspection. Staff reported about 70–80 completed community surveys that helped shape programming and scheduling for the center.
Councilors discussed rental options for gym space and other events, and staff said the city will publish a schedule and sign-up links on the municipal website and Facebook page. The council asked staff to keep the community informed about specific event sign-ups and posted times.
Separately, the council approved buying six pedestal pathway lights to improve safety along the route from the new parking lot to the building; fixtures are estimated at roughly $1,300 each (~$7,800 total) for the lights themselves, with installation costs to be determined and likely completed in spring. Members agreed not to set a hard cap given uncertainty about labor costs.
