West Branch accepts $840,277 low bid for Phase 2 East Side water‑main replacement

Eric Gould of engineering firm Veenstra & Kimm told the council that seven companies submitted bids and that Midwest Underground was the apparent low bidder for both project scopes. He said the firm’s Scope 2 bid of $840,277 is about 26.9% below the firm’s engineer’s estimate of $1,150,000 and recommended the city accept the contract, noting the firm appeared to have sufficient experience and resources to meet the contract schedule.
Councilmember Tom Dean moved to approve the resolution awarding the contract; Jerry Sexton seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
City staff indicated the contract will proceed under normal contract administration procedures. The project advances an existing program of water‑system upgrades; the meeting record states the public hearing on the project drew no public comments. Follow‑up steps include issuing a notice to proceed and standard oversight of construction progress and retainage.
