Daniels County commissioners on Jan. 20 approved a $41,235 estimate to replace a county Quantar base/repeater used for 911 radio communications. County staff and visiting technicians told commissioners the unit should improve P25 compliance and help address intermittent dispatch desktop outages that sometimes cause one-day/next-day connectivity failures.
Staff said the replacement would maintain compatibility with existing radios for most ambulance, fire and law-enforcement units, and the county expects the vendor to schedule installation in spring (staff discussed April as a likely timeframe). Commissioners debated whether the purchase should come from 911-designated funds; staff confirmed 911 funds are a likely source because the equipment supports multi-agency dispatch and is treated as a statutory 911 expense.
Commissioners approved the purchase by motion and voice vote. Staff also discussed ordering a PCU replacement for station console workstations that have been failing; that desktop/backup issue is being handled separately with a small emergency purchase to keep station consoles functional.
Outcome and next steps: Purchase approved; staff will confirm vendor scheduling and funding source and return with timing and serial-number/insurance details as needed.
