Prairie City Council accepts clerk's resignation, appoints interim clerk and administrator

Prairie City, Iowa — The Prairie City Council on Aug. 25 accepted the resignation of City Clerk/Finance Officer Christie Busby and approved several interim staffing moves to maintain municipal operations.
Mayor Chad Alleger called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in City Hall and on Zoom. Council members present were Joe Disney, Phil Holland, Derek Ingle, Beth James and Deb Townsend.
Council member Derek Ingle moved to appoint Sue Ponder, the city's Transition Coordinator and Library Director, as Interim City Administrator; Council member Beth James seconded, and the motion passed unanimously on a roll call vote. The council then voted to accept the resignation of Christie Busby as City Clerk/Finance Officer; Ingle moved and Townsend seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.
Shortly after, Council member Joe Disney moved that the council go into closed session at 7:03 p.m. pursuant to Iowa Code §21.5(1)(i); Derek Ingle seconded. The minutes record the motion passed on a unanimous roll call vote. The council returned to open session at 7:15 p.m. on a subsequent unanimous roll call vote.
After the closed-session interval, Ingle moved to appoint Billing Clerk Jadi Brown as Interim City Clerk at $28.00 per hour, effective Aug. 28, 2025; Disney seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The council also approved a motion by Deb Townsend, seconded by Ingle, to post the City Clerk/Finance Officer position as an internal posting if allowed, or otherwise publicly for 24 hours if required.
The meeting concluded with a motion by Ingle to adjourn, seconded by Phil Holland; the council adjourned at 7:21 p.m. The meeting minutes were attested by Mayor Chad Alleger and Interim City Administrator Sue Ponder.
