Boxholm council approves tractor lease, advances sewer rate increase and moves monthly meeting time to 6 p.m.

At its March 27 regular meeting the Boxholm City Council approved a nine-month tractor lease for $2,480, approved routine agenda items and bills, advanced a sewer-rate resolution in first reading to raise the minimum from $15 to $17 (3–1), adopted a resolution changing meetings to 6:00 p.m., and approved a Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan.
The Boxholm City Council at a regular meeting March 27 approved a set of routine and policy items, including a nine-month tractor lease, a first reading of a sewer-rate increase, and a change to the council’s regular meeting time.
Council approved the agenda, the prior meeting minutes, the treasurer’s report and the payment of bills by unanimous vote. Clerk Leah Porter said municipal bills for the period include a $25,203.00 insurance payment to Boehm Insurance and a $2,480 lease payment to Van Wall; total municipal bills listed were $31,234.76 and sewer checks totaled $772.74. Reported income for February was $4,075.71.
On capital needs, Robyn Dodson moved and Brandon Wendt seconded approval of a tractor lease from Van Wall; the nine-month lease will cost $2,480 and the motion passed unanimously. On sewer policy, the council held a first reading of a resolution to raise the minimum sewer rate from $15 to $17. A motion to approve the resolution, moved by Paul Frazier and seconded by Victoria Helling, passed 3–1 with Dodson recorded as opposed.
The council also approved a resolution changing the regular meeting time from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month (motion by Frazier, second by Helling), and approved the Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan resolution (motion by Helling, second by Wendt), both by unanimous votes. Discussion of the town’s 4th of July celebration was tabled.
In communications, ACCESS of Boone and Greene Counties offered informational resources; Clerk Leah Porter will meet with Iowa Rural Water to discuss sewer concerns. Southeast Valley offered a Jaguars sign; the council declined the offer on a motion by Dodson and second by Helling. The Boxholm sign has been repaired. Resident Marva Jean Stark asked to present a program about Iowa birds at the shelter house. Grand Heritage invited local officials to an event on April 9.
The council noted the ball diamond is reserved for Aug. 9 and the road south of the diamond will be closed on May 31. The clerk reported that eggs and candy have been ordered for an Easter Egg Hunt to be held April 12; the area will be divided by age groups. The council set a budget hearing for April 10 at 6 p.m. as the next procedural step.
