Council approves consent agenda, hears department reports and EMS staffing needs
Summary

At its July 9 meeting the Prairie City Council approved a consent agenda that included May financials, June claims, Resolution 7-9-25-1 approving bills and transfers, meeting minutes, MSA invoices totaling $12,741.75, a Snyder & Associates invoice for $2,507, Wilkie’s alcohol license renewal, co-ed softball rules, a revised sign and banner policy, the Prairie Days schedule, a firewall replacement invoice for $1,432.96 and potential installation by Xerox up to $4,530, and an ambulance repair invoice for $5,955.41. Deb Townsend requested and the council accepted a correction to the June 26 minutes prior to approval.
Public Works Superintendent Harry Brannen reported installation of 47 new MXU units at residences, tree trimming on the bike trail, assistance with billing and delinquent shutoffs, and completion of the Manatt overlay. Police Chief Kevin Gott and Library Director Sue Ponder provided packet updates; Ponder noted the summer reading program starting this week and thanked City Administrator Jerry Moore for guidance on the new library project.
City Administrator Jerry Moore summarized accomplishments from his two years in the role, urged vigilance on wages and benefits to retain staff, and reported a recommended firewall replacement after a security issue in which no data were taken. Fire Department representative Ryan reported no update. EMS Director Jody Van Der Kamp said the department handled 14 calls in June and 85 year-to-date, is seeking additional daytime volunteers, is preparing specifications for a new ambulance with a projected 2–3 year wait for delivery, and is organizing a 5K on July 26 during Prairie Days that will require volunteers to staff street corners for safety.
The council also heard from MSA and Jeff Powell on potential GIS changes but tabled that item to the September meeting for further documentation review. The meeting adjourned at 7:43 p.m.
