New Market council approves multiple resolutions, licenses and local actions including road closure and driveway repair

At the May 21 meeting the council approved several resolutions and licenses (checks-issuance policy, employee wages, multiple short-term liquor and tobacco licenses), set a public hearing on sale of city property for June 18, approved a Fourth Street closure for July 3–4, and authorized driveway repairs for a resident. The council also discussed a yearly chicken-owner agreement to be finalized by the clerk.
The New Market City Council approved a package of routine but varied items at its May 21 meeting, including policies, short-term licenses, a road closure and a citizen-requested driveway repair.
Resolutions approved included Resolution 2026-22 (permission for issuance of checks prior to council approval) and Resolution 2026-24 (statement of current employee wages). The council also approved alcohol- and tobacco-related licenses: Resolution 2026-19 and 2026-20 granted Wicked Wendy’s a standard liquor license and a five‑day license; Resolution 2026-25 approved a five-day liquor license for Lucky Wife Wine Slushies; and Resolution 2026-26 approved a Town & Country tobacco license. All of these resolutions passed by unanimous vote as recorded in the minutes.
The council voted to remove the community recycling containers; that motion carried with four members voting in favor and Council member Mike DeVoe recorded as abstaining. The body also approved a street closure request to close 4th Street on July 3 and 4 from Main Street east to the alley for community activities.
During Citizen Forum the council authorized driveway repairs for resident Rosemary Frampton using 3D Construction. In Old Business the council discussed yearly agreements for chicken owners; the minutes record that City Clerk Megan Wright will finalize the permit form for future council approval.
The meeting adjourned after a motion by Council member Brian Moore, seconded by Council member Mike DeVoe. The next regular council meeting is scheduled for June 18, 2026 at 7:00 p.m.
