City administrator says Fire/EMS building has ADA ramp and dozens of defects; occupancy certification delayed

City Administrator Jerry Moore told the Prairie City Council on May 14 that a recent walkthrough of the Fire/EMS building identified an exterior ramp that is not ADA compliant, debris outside the site and approximately 50 interior defects that need remediation before the city can issue a certificate of occupancy.
Moore said the list of deficiencies must be addressed by the contractor before certification can be issued. Council later directed the contractor to correct asphalt and pavement defects on the EMS/Fire project to meet contract specifications rather than rely on the offer of a street-repair warranty.
Moore also thanked staff for assistance with utility billing transitions and noted the city has conducted software demonstrations for billing and administrative systems. The council did not take additional immediate action during the meeting to certify the building; a special fiscal-year wrap-up meeting was suggested for June 25, 2025, which could include further project updates.
The council’s immediate steps: direct contractor to fix pavement/asphalt defects on the EMS/Fire project and continue tracking outstanding items in the administrator’s deficiency list. No occupancy date was given at the meeting.
