Blue Earth County on June 23 approved two planning actions: a combined preliminary and final plat for Superior Concrete Block (PC 01-26) and a rezoning request (PC 10-26) to permit construction of a personal farm shop with a personal truck wash.
John Considine, the county zoning administrator, presented PC 01-26 for Superior Concrete Company: the plat would consolidate three existing lots (registered land survey tract B, lot six of Worthley subdivision, and part of a government lot in Section 23 of South Bend Township) into a single parcel in light-industrial zoning within the urban-fringe overlay and Blue Earth River shoreland. The Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval based on staff findings and conditions.
Property owner Steve Rents, who said he owns the property at 120 Greenwood Drive in Mankato, told the board the plat is intended to simplify ownership (joining abstract and Torrens parcels) to allow potential future expansion by family members. The public comment period drew no opposing remarks and the board approved the resolution based on the Planning Commission’s recommendation.
Separately, staff presented PC 10-26, a rezoning request from rural townsite to agriculture by applicants Greg Strobel and Tony Ostendahl to construct a personal farm shop with a personal truck wash and onsite storage of wash water. The Planning Commission unanimously forwarded a recommendation of approval and the board approved the resolution.
Both actions passed by voice vote with no recorded roll-call counts provided in the transcript.
What this means: The Superior Concrete plat consolidates several legal parcels to permit unified ownership and potential future development; the rezoning allows a private agricultural shop use and associated truck-wash activities on the specified rural parcel, subject to any conditions set forth in the approving resolution.
