Melbourne — The Melbourne City Council met Jan. 12, 2026, for a budget meeting at the Melbourne Library basement; Mayor Mansager called the meeting to order at 5:58 p.m. Council persons Lucas Hauser, Josh Fuller, Gary Fricke, Beth Smith and Beth Opperman were present.
Council person Beth Smith moved to approve the meeting agenda; Council person Lucas Hauser seconded. The council voted "all ayes." No individual dissenting votes were recorded.
City Clerk Pothast led a discussion of expenses proposed for the 2026–27 budget and invited input from the community, saying, "Input from the community is welcome." She announced the council will meet again on Feb. 9 at 6:00 p.m. at the library basement to review revenue estimates and to set the levy rate to be submitted.
There were no formal budget votes or ordinance approvals recorded at the Jan. 12 session. Council person Beth Opperman moved to adjourn at the end of the meeting; Council person Beth Smith seconded and the motion passed "all ayes." The meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
The council's next scheduled budget meeting is Feb. 9, when members plan to consider revenue figures and adopt a levy rate for submission.
