The Swisher City Council debated public-safety coverage and public works contingency planning and set near-term steps on both issues.
On law enforcement, council reviewed a reserve-officer presence program that has been active since April and recounted citations, warnings and patrol activity. Members discussed whether to continue reserve coverage during the holiday period and agreed to suspend reserve coverage for December and January and re-evaluate at the council’s February meeting, when reserves are scheduled to attend.
On snow response, council reviewed estimates from backup snow-plow vendors (including Hometown and Rob Brown) and discussed logistics such as mapping city limits for outside contractors and minimum-hour charges. The council voted to table the formal contract decision until the next meeting but authorized the public works director (Justin, as referenced in the discussion) to call out an emergency vendor in the intervening period if needed, using the lowest-priced available contractor and bringing a formal contract to council at the next meeting for ratification.
Council also reviewed and discussed budget workshop scheduling for January–April 2025, noting that the March 5 deadline to submit the proposed property-tax levy to the county auditor is firm; council members preferred Wednesday evenings where possible and asked staff to circulate firm dates and times.
The council approved tabling and the procedural authorizations on voice/roll call votes recorded in the meeting.
