The Melbourne City Council approved two building permits during its March 25 meeting. A permit for a shed at 309 4th Avenue was approved after staff noted it met required setbacks; the motion was moved by Beth Opperman and seconded by Beth Smith and the minutes record an unanimous vote. A permit for 606 Main Street to replace an old deck was also approved; Councilor Lucas Hauser moved approval, Josh Fuller seconded, and the vote was recorded as all ayes.
Mayor Cynthia Mansager set a public hearing on the full city budget for April 13, 2026, at 7:00 p.m.; councilors said the figures agreed with the overview they had worked through at the March 9 meeting.
Council members reported attending several recent meetings: a Hazard Mitigation meeting (Fuller, Smith and Clerk Mary Pothast), a Community Foundation awards ceremony (Mansager, Opperman and Pothast) and an Ambulance/County/EMS meeting (Fricke, Fuller and Angie Gibbs). The council noted the proposed ambulance/EMS changes in Marshalltown are complex and would require a county-wide vote that needs 60% approval; more information will be provided as the process continues.
Mayor Mansager requested that cleanup and locating a site for a city yard-waste disposal area be added to the April agenda for further discussion. The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
