Fayette County Commission approves routine vouchers, grants and personnel items; local vendor offers IT services

FAYETTE COUNTY — Commissioners handled a slate of routine business at the meeting, voting on ministerial and administrative items and hearing from a local IT vendor interested in competing for county contracts.
Signatures for county land books were approved so the printed copies can be delivered by the July 1 deadline. Commissioners approved payroll and estate settlements by voice vote. A commissioner objected to one fire-department computer line item and to E‑ZPass charges showing on another department’s invoice; the commission excluded the disputed computer expense from that approval and directed staff to draft a letter to state legislators and agency heads asking for consideration of toll exemptions or policy relief for emergency responders.
The commission authorized Commissioner Brenneman to sign routine spay/neuter grant reimbursement vouchers when invoices are ready so the matter does not have to be added to every meeting agenda. Commissioners also voted to close remaining bank accounts of a dissolved Urban Renewal Agency (URA) and transfer funds to proper county accounts, with staff and counsel empowered to manage the logistics.
One masonry/CFIA project bid was approved under the grant with the county portion estimated at roughly $23,800. The commission accepted a small ARP-funded grant (under $5,000) to build two ADA-accessible fishing docks; staff reported the West Virginia DNR had recently stocked catfish in the pond. The Greenbrier Valley Middle recreation and economic development contract with Green Consultants (Matt Ford’s firm) was approved on a fixed rate beginning July 1.
Commissioners approved annual budget statement filing and reassigned committee appointments following a vacancy; Commissioner Miller was assigned appointments formerly held by Commissioner Fornet, and Brenneman was placed back on the farmland protection board. The commission also approved hiring a part-time county clerk following executive-session consideration of personnel.
During the GST IT contract discussion (a 6‑month renewal), Thomas Baker of AMG Network Hosting introduced himself as director of information technology for the City of Montgomery and as owner of AMG Network Hosting, a local IT firm. Baker asked to be considered when the contract is publicly re-bid next fiscal year; commissioners said local vendors would be welcome to compete.
