North Butler board approves 2026–27 calendar, personnel hires and $11,617 vendor quote

The North Butler Community School District Board of Education met Feb. 9, 2026, in the Allison Media Center and approved the 2026–27 school calendar after a brief public hearing, authorized multiple personnel recommendations and approved a vendor quote totaling $11,617.22.
President Ty Crawford-Miller called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Board members present were Jordan Nolz, Sara Henrichs and Heather Shook; Dan Engels was absent. Superintendent Bryan Boysen and Business Manager/Board Secretary Shellee Bartlett attended; visitor Susan Brackett addressed the board on the band program.
The board opened a public hearing on the proposed 2026–27 calendar at 6:00 p.m. and closed it at 6:08 p.m.; the minutes record that questions were raised about the calendar start date. Following the hearing, the board approved the official 2026–27 school calendar (motion by Heather Shook; seconded by Jordan Nolz). The motion carried unanimously.
The board approved the January 12, 2026 minutes and accepted the January 2026 financial reports and the February 2026 bill listing (motions carried unanimously). On personnel, the board approved the following recommendations: Cate Anderson, head cook with a $1.00 stipend; Curt Valentine, boys golf coach, $1,492; Teresa Perrin, girls golf coach, $1,492; Shane Buss, assistant football, $3,044; Ainsley Lovrien, assistant softball, $3,044; and Dylan Edeker as a business teacher for 2026–27 (assignment is for the second semester pending licensure). The board also approved substitute Courtney Beal and volunteer Dawson Clark (high school track). The personnel motion was made by Sara Henrichs and seconded by Jordan Nolz and carried unanimously.
The minutes note that visitor Susan Brackett reviewed the band program during the visitors/public comment portion of the agenda.
The board approved issuing lifetime athletic passes to board members (motion by Heather Shook; seconded by Jordan Nolz) and approved fundraisers proposed by the Student Council and the elementary school (motion by Heather Shook; seconded by Sara Henrichs), each vote unanimous. The board set a public hearing on 2026–27 property tax rates for April 13, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Allison Media Center and set a public hearing on the certified budget for April 13, 2026, at 6:05 p.m. (motions carried unanimously).
On procurement, the board approved a quote from Laprea Education for $11,617.22 for "developing decoders" (the minutes list the line as "developing decorders," which appears to be a typographical error). The motion to approve the quote was made by Sara Henrichs and seconded by Jordan Nolz; the motion carried unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 6:50 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for March 9, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Greene Media Center.
