Brighton marks 15th anniversary of Marriage Equality Act and announces Pride events

He described attending a press conference hosted by Assembly Member Harry Bronson, who helped craft the legislation, and thanked community members and allies for their support. The supervisor noted Brighton has for years marched as a town in local Pride events and announced two upcoming opportunities: an event in this room on Friday, July 10 at noon and Brighton’s participation in the Pride parade on Saturday, July 18 (parade kickoff on Science Parkway). He asked residents, volunteers and elected officials to contact Miriam Moore to sign up to march with the town and noted new town Pride shirts would be available.
Clerk remarks later in the meeting included recollections of the immediate aftermath when the Marriage Equality Act passed and memories about staff and town clerks who assisted early same-sex couples seeking licenses. Board members praised the community celebration and urged continued support for equal rights.
