Preston readies summer camps, farmer’s market and concert series; camps report robust enrollment

Commissioners reviewed the parks department’s summer program schedule and vendor-driven events at the June 23 meeting. Mark Simmons said Kid Zone summer camp begins next week with capacity for 45 children per week; Teen Camp averages 17 participants weekly. The department hired six new seasonal staff and will run a counselor-in-training (CIT) program with five CITs.
Simmons confirmed a one-week soccer camp in August and ongoing adult activities including volleyball and basketball. The Farmer's Market is set to begin July 9 and run the last Thursday of each month through September with roughly 20 vendors; the market will align with the summer concert series, which includes six scheduled concerts from July 9 through Aug. 20. Commissioners also reviewed community events schedules and attendance notes for recent events including Palooza and the senior picnic.
Commissioners noted resident requests for additional benches in the park; no procurement for benches was approved at the meeting. Staff were asked to continue coordination for event logistics and vendor outreach.
