EDC reports on grants, startup support and donations; Hayward Lakes VCB names new executive director

Adam Lamoureaux reported to the Sawyer County Economic Development and UW-Extension Committee on Aug. 5 that the Economic Development Corporation is pursuing multiple funding and support avenues for local businesses.
Lamoureaux said the Tribal Toolbox event helped identify funding opportunities, that free technical assistance for startup businesses is available at LCO University on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 6 p.m., and that he is applying for a Small Business Development Grant in the $50,000–$250,000 range that could be used for matching funds or loans to local businesses. He also said Enbridge and Arcland have donated to the EDC and that a grand opening for a business called The Lot is planned at the end of August.
Separately, Mindy Simons introduced herself as the new executive director of the Hayward Lakes Visitors & Convention Bureau and summarized goals for the bureau in the coming months. The committee received both updates; no formal actions or votes on grants were recorded during the meeting.
