Albion Select Board approves appointments, tables cemetery rule and phone upgrade; rolls over CD

At its May 26 meeting the Albion Select Board unanimously approved appointments for election clerks and committee seats, nominated Phil Dow for the Spirit of America award and approved a set of administrative housekeeping items while tabling two proposed policy changes.
The board approved appointment of election clerks Leslie Jones, Beverly Bradstreet, Gene Clark, Marianne Cogswell, Nancy Doer, Vicki Gordon, Valerie Higgins, Patti LeBlanc, Kathy Lord, Mary McGinnis and Karen C. Sennatt. The board also confirmed Joseph Doerr as Code Enforcement Officer/Plumbing Inspector, Adam Higgins to the Cemetery Committee and Jacob Lennon to the Albion School Building Committee. The board nominated Phil Dow for the Spirit of America Award, with the presentation date to be set before the June 30 deadline.
The board considered a proposed cemetery rule that would prohibit burials between November 15 and April 15 but tabled the proposal pending additional research and Cemetery Committee input. The board reviewed a Technology Solutions of Maine phone/communications proposal (initial hardware/install estimate roughly $1,500 and a potential $40 monthly charge to port the primary number to Spectrum) and requested a side-by-side cost comparison before deciding.
Jeanie Doore, Town Clerk/Treasurer, reported a checkbook balance of about $221,000 following a school payment and an expected inflow of roughly $50,000 during the week. The board discussed rolling over a matured certificate of deposit into the Forma account at the best available rate.
The board authorized removal of the structure covering the exterior oil tank at the school by June 30 to comply with the fire marshal’s directive; the fire department will handle the removal and install protective barriers afterward if needed. The board also authorized ordering replacement street signs for Sunset Lane and Maple Way and installing speed limit signs at both ends of Tyler Road.
Motions to approve the revised minutes, the appointments and the administrative items passed unanimously; the board tabled the cemetery rule change and the phone-system upgrade pending further information and adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
