The Albion Select Board voted May 26 to schedule a follow-up meeting with legal counsel, the Code Enforcement Officer and a Planning Board representative to finalize next steps on alleged violations at the Morency property.
Board members reviewed a draft attorney letter that combines prior and more recent alleged violations, including questions about dwelling use, sewer connection, setback compliance, unpermitted conversions, plumbing work, balconies, and a deck near the high-water mark. The board said it intended to resolve outstanding violations while avoiding unnecessary litigation when possible.
Code Enforcement Officer Joe Doore raised concerns about potential legal exposure for the town and questioned the accuracy and completeness of some allegations in the draft letter, prompting the board to seek counsel and input from the Planning Board before issuing final enforcement correspondence.
The board voted to schedule the meeting with legal counsel and relevant town officials to finalize the letter and determine enforcement steps. Members said the meeting will aim to resolve procedural uncertainties and ensure any enforcement action follows the town ordinance and the Code Enforcement Officer's findings.
The scheduled legal meeting is the board’s next procedural step; staff are to arrange participation by counsel and a Planning Board representative and report back to the Select Board with recommended next actions.
