Road Commissioner Matt Vayu reported several near-term maintenance priorities to the Albion Select Board on April 13, including seasonal roadside post removal, planned gravel road grading, work on bridge sections, culvert and ditch maintenance, and equipment repairs. He introduced a new road-condition inventory template to document the condition of roads and signs.
Vayu also noted that the town previously purchased road-management software that has not yet been used and suggested the inventory template would support road-management planning. Board members discussed the historic and unclear maintenance responsibility for Robbins Road and similar ways, described the formal discontinuance or closure process (which requires town-meeting approval and county filing), and flagged potential municipal liability for vehicle damage where road status is ambiguous.
The board concluded that a comprehensive inventory of town roads would be necessary to clarify maintenance responsibilities and mitigate liability risks.
