The court approved providing rabies vaccinations to the county's two animal-control officers after Anthem notified the county the vaccines were not covered by the employer health plan.
Tina explained that the Bracken County Health Department could provide the vaccine at a per-dose cost of $468.90. Each officer requires three doses; the total cost for six doses is $2,813.40. The health department agreed to waive administration fees and the county will reimburse the department for vaccine costs. The court voted to approve the expenditure and to have the vaccinations administered through the county health department.
Magistrates said using the health department simplifies follow-up care if an adverse reaction occurs and provides continuity of recordkeeping; the motion was moved by Heather Brumby and seconded by Sandy Roof and passed on roll call.
