Fiscal court approves mutual-aid agreement, selects Buffalo Trace Search & Rescue and renews Air Evac membership program

Emergency Management Director Daniel Wick presented a statewide mutual aid agreement intended to standardize reimbursement and compensation when counties send or receive mutual aid during disasters. Wick said a written agreement improves the chance of FEMA reimbursement and helps document costs. After discussion the court voted to approve the mutual aid agreement.
On search-and-rescue coverage, the court considered two proposals: Buffalo Trace Search and Rescue (a proposed donation of $2,500) and Pendleton County Search and Rescue (a $4,000 contribution). Wick and others recommended returning to Buffalo Trace, citing increased membership and closer proximity; the court voted to contract with Buffalo Trace Search and Rescue.
Separately, the court renewed the county's Air Evac (air-medical membership) program for $32,940 for the July 14, 2026'July 14, 2027 term. Speakers encouraged public outreach so residents understand membership tiers and coverage differences outside Bracken and Mason counties.
All three measures were approved on roll-call votes, and leaders emphasized documenting costs and keeping timelines for recovery and reimbursement after recent storms.
