County staff report: land records, register of deeds and zoning/conservation updates
Summary

County administrative departments provided routine written updates at the Aug. 7 meeting of the Sawyer County Land, Water & Forest Resources Committee.
A written Register of Deeds report (no speaker listed) indicated transfer fees declined from June while recorded marriages increased; the minutes did not include dollar amounts or additional detail. Brian DeVries, representing the Land Records and County Surveyor Department, said staff completed general maintenance work, collected GPS coordinates on PLSS corners in the towns of Hunter, Lenroot, Hayward, Round Lake and Bass Lake, and recorded a large number of Certified Survey Maps this year; several remain pending Board of Review results.
DeVries also said the Lac Courte Oreilles (LCO) Tribal governing board has hired a GIS staff person and the county surveyor’s office is working with tribal staff to develop communications and data-sharing protocols. Jay Kozlowski reported for the Zoning/Conservation Department that staff continue to monitor water levels on seven county-owned dams and have been assisting property owners with shoreline erosion projects; Kozlowski also said department staff conducted trainings and meetings for lake associations.
The minutes list no formal action on these reports. The next committee meeting is Sept. 11, 2024; minutes were recorded by Lynn Fitch, County Clerk.
