South Bloomfield police outline staffing push; internal interviews for lieutenant set for Dec. 2

Police Sgt. Michael Maynard told the council on Nov. 4 that department statistics for October show an increase in crashes coinciding with paving on US 23. He said all officers met the deadline to read and sign required policy updates, reported a recent water leak in the police office that was contained with help from village staff, and described a plan to hire a new patrol lieutenant.
Maynard also said he plans to visit a local police academy to recruit officers and that morale appears to be improving, which he hopes will help retention. Mayor Aaron Thomas said he wants to conduct internal interviews on Dec. 2 and that GoHR will conduct those interviews; Thomas asked council members to submit any questions they would like asked.
No formal personnel appointment was made at the meeting; Mayor Thomas explained the appointment process would involve his nomination and council approval.
