South Bloomfield schedules utilities forum after new water plant comes online

Mayor Aaron Thomas opened the Oct. 7 Village of South Bloomfield council meeting by announcing a special Utilities Public Information Forum set for Nov. 6 to answer questions about the new water plant and its financing. "With the new plant online, we agreed that now was a good time to have it to address a lot of the rumors about costs and financing," he said.

Village Administrator Joe Allen told council the new water plant is "finally up and running," though staff are still addressing a few pump issues and other minor "bugs." Allen said the department plans to flush hydrants the week of the Pumpkin Show as part of startup work. Allen also said he will distribute a copy of a water-service agreement with neighboring Ashville to council members after a first reading of Resolution 2024-11.

Council discussed a proposed water-service payment-plan contract intended to help residents, especially owners of new builds, manage unexpectedly large bills. Mayor Thomas asked if there were objections to having the solicitor draft an ordinance to implement the payment-plan option; none were raised. Administrator Allen framed the Nov. 6 forum as an opportunity to lay out costs, financing and program details for residents.
