Canton council adopts amended water-service ordinance, updated zoning map and routine measures

Clerk Anne Koliha reported that work on the 2022 audit with Hawkins Ash is complete and the city is awaiting final reports. Koliha noted that previously approved CD transactions were completed and recognized Public Works Director Jon Nordsving for 20 years of service to the city.
Staff reported that a new transfer pump has been installed at the lift station between County Highway and the township shops but additional electrical work is pending thawing of the ground. Jim Davis said Tweten Construction has the supplies needed for repairs to the park shelter.
Items discussed but not decided Barb Kerns reviewed a spreadsheet of garbage and recycling charges and possible rate options; no action was taken. Koliha and Kerns reported contact with Dorothy Coons and that the Historical Society plans window and sill upgrades to the Mitson House; they are awaiting contractor estimates. Josh Nordsving presented a request from the Legion to split 50/50 the cost of infield sand and new bases for the ball field; the council asked the Legion for estimates and further details before taking any vote.
