Buhl council amends agenda, discusses planning items and operational needs at Aug. 14 working session

At its Aug. 14 working session the Buhl City Council approved an amended agenda to add an update on the City Clerk/Treasurer search and discussed planning topics (property reversion, alley easement, water tower), a redevelopment proposal for 206 State Street, fire-department radio needs, and a valuation for Lake Leander.
Mayor James Matthews called the Buhl City Council working session to order at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and asked that the council add an update on the search for a new City Clerk/Treasurer to the agenda. Councilor Towner moved to approve the agenda as amended; Councilor Teska-Erickson supported the motion, which carried unanimously.
The council ran through a series of planning-related items that will be placed on future regular meeting agendas when appropriate. Those items included whether privately owned properties whose time to construct new structures has expired should be handled in a way that allows them to revert to the city, consideration of a perpetual easement for public access to a north–south alley west of State Street behind new North St. Louis County Habitat for Humanity homes, and the status of a water tower construction project.
Council members also noted a proposal from Zenith Property Management to redevelop the laundromat building at 206 State Street; the proposal was listed for future consideration rather than acted on at the working session. Separately, Mayor Matthews’s requested update on the clerk/treasurer search was added as item 4.A.f for placement on a regular meeting agenda.
Councilor Teska-Erickson said the Fire Department needs new radios to comply with current rules and policy; the council indicated it will consider seeking grant funding to help procure that equipment. The council also discussed obtaining a valuation for the Lake Leander property, described in the meeting as an under-utilized scout camp facility, so the city can better evaluate long-term options for the site.
A motion by Councilor Kealy to adjourn, supported by Councilor Teska-Erickson, carried unanimously and the meeting was adjourned at 7:53 p.m. No formal ordinances, resolutions or contract awards were adopted at the working session; items were generally listed for later consideration at regular council meetings.
