The Village of Denton Board of Trustees on April 6 approved a conditional use permit for a retail fireworks stand at 7105 Cass Avenue and heard several public comments and project updates before approving purchases and claims.
During the public‑comment period Shay Smith introduced herself to the board as a candidate for the state legislature. Gail Braunsroth announced the Denton Activities Committee will host a quarter‑auction fundraiser on April 18 and confirmed Denton Days is scheduled for June 20. Lona Anderson asked whether the Denton Community Activities Committee could contribute funding toward an outfield track project, provided vendor contact information for playground work, and raised concerns about park trash, bare grass areas and weeds in landscaping.
Public hearing and permit: Trustee Amanda Fangmeier moved to open a public hearing at 7:42 p.m. on a Conditional Use Permit for a residential property at 7105 Cass Ave to operate a fireworks stand; Trustee Doug Rosekrans seconded. After receiving public comment the board closed the hearing at 7:46 p.m.; Rosekrans moved and Fangmeier seconded the motion to approve the permit for 2026, and the motion carried.
Local projects and questions: Resident Craig Vanslyke asked about the timeline for installing the next remote‑read water meters and how many have been installed to date. Ross Blackledge said a tree at the corner of Lancaster and Cass will be inspected to determine whether it is still alive and that he will follow up with the contractor about street striping wear observed after Fall 2025.
Purchases and claims: Trustees authorized the purchase of two Criterion 21.1 cu ft refrigerators from Menards at $622.99 each (regular price $799), following a motion by Amanda Fangmeier seconded by Doug Rosekrans. The board approved Claims List A totaling $10,730.00 (the presented total was $13,598.14 with a note that check #19707 would be voided), Claims List B of $4,207.83 and March net payroll of $14,589.04.
