Highland honors NCAA champion Taylor Kesner; resident praises crews after power outage

At the July 21 Highland City Council meeting Mayor Pro Tem Peg Bellm recognized Taylor Kesner, a 2021 graduate of Highland High School, for winning the women’s weight throw at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Virginia Beach.
Taylor Kesner described the event and her background in track, noting, "This is my fourth year; I have another year yet," and thanked her coaches, Tina Beyer and Doug Bradley. The council played a YouTube video of Kesner’s championship performance and presented an IDOT recognition sign.
During public forum resident John Kapp thanked city staff for restoring power after a tree fell on a line in his area, praised a Weinheimer Center concert and noted the pie auction raised a record $22,000. Councilwoman Sloan echoed thanks to the fire and electric departments for their work.
City Manager Conrad reported that the police department is conducting extra patrols in the Lakeland Terrace area and that traffic studies in that neighborhood are ongoing.
The meeting continued with routine business and adjourned at 6:55 p.m.
