Highland approves Highland Moose Lodge Chili Cook‑Off and car cruise for Oct. 19

The Highland City Council on Aug. 4 approved a special‑event application from Highland Moose Lodge #2479 to hold its annual Chili Cook‑Off and car cruise on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2025 on the Square.
Kerry Fenton, speaking for the lodge, said organizers will need streets blocked around the Square for the car show and will require access to bathrooms and electric service. Councilwoman Peg Bellm and other council members confirmed those needs are covered in the event application, and Councilwoman Sloan moved to approve the event; Councilman Klaus seconded. A roll call confirmed Klaus, Sloan, Napper and Bellm voting aye and the motion carried.
Also during public comment resident John Kapp praised the recent county fair and noted the Motorcross arrangements that followed the rodeo.
The event is scheduled for Oct. 19, 2025; the council approved the application and any required street closures as part of the motion.
