District previews summer work, adds transportation appendix to safety plan and celebrates athletics and student leadership

At the June 22 Marcellus Central School District Board meeting, the superintendent reviewed the summer workload — strategic‑plan review, teacher assignments and orientation, professional development, state reporting and grant activity — and said administrators remain busy preparing for the 2026–27 school year.
Donald Webber presented the annual district‑wide safety plan update and described the addition of Appendix K, a consolidated transportation emergency plan that pulls previously distributed procedures into a single appendix. The administration said the district will post the plan for 30 days of public comment before bringing it back for adoption in August.
The board paused to salute athletics accomplishments. Mr. Free highlighted sectional and state successes: several team and individual postseason qualifiers, a state champion in the 100‑meter hurdles and a girls 4x400 relay that qualified for and placed at state competition. He named student athletes (including Maddie Foy, Harmony Frost, Madison/Maddie Foy and others) and listed multiple All‑CNY award nominees from Marcellus.
Student representative Tucker Burnett summarized his year on the board, described work to create an alumni LinkedIn network to connect students with career pathways and said he prepared a handbook to help future student representatives transition into the role. Tucker said the experience made him “a great observer” of district operations and that he hopes the role grows in future years.
Board members and administrators thanked outgoing and returning volunteers and staff: they welcomed student board member Monica Comstock, recognized service by Lori Treat, Adriana Pereda and Megan Newhouse following reductions due to budget constraints, congratulated Bob Montgomery on his new post at Onondaga Central Schools and welcomed Kelly Rossiter to fill a vacancy on the board.
The superintendent emphasized that much of the district’s work happens in summer months, including state reporting, audits and preparations for new graduation measures from New York State. The board noted a reorganization meeting scheduled for July 13, 2026.
The safety plan's Appendix K and the other informational items are next for public posting and adoption steps during the summer.
