Berkeley SD 87 board adopts amended FY26 budget, approves food and milk vendor contracts

Board members voted to adopt the FY26 amended budget after a public hearing in which district staff said there was no change in overall revenue but noted several reallocations: higher employee benefits because of recent health-care cost increases, accelerated technology purchases to secure devices for FY26, slight increases in equipment and capital outlay (including a roof project), and a possible facilities vehicle purchase. Staff said tuition expenditures decreased because geothermal-related costs would be accounted for in FY27 rather than FY26. The hearing concluded with no public questions.
In subsequent business, the administration recommended awarding food-supply contracts for the 2026–27 school year to Big Red Distribution, Commercial Food Systems, Gordon Food Service and Wilkins Food Service after a June 2 bid opening; the board approved the recommendation. The board also approved the food-service department milk vendor agreement for 2026–27 as presented.
The board authorized permanent transfers of interest earned during FY26 from the working cash fund to the education fund and from the debt service fund to the education fund, as part of routine end-of-year cash management.
All motions passed on voice/roll-call votes during the meeting; the administration said it will present a tentative FY27 budget in July and continue to monitor grant reimbursements and property-tax timing.
What happens next: district staff will finalize contract award letters to vendors and move forward with procurement and the FY27 tentative budget schedule.
