Cobb County elections staff report 76,469 ballots cast; board approves agenda 5-0

Cobb County elections staff on Monday presented final counts from the recent election and outlined the disposition of provisional ballots as the Board of Elections and Registration moved through a short certification meeting.
Director Phillips told the board the county recorded 41,374 election-day ballots and 32,962 advance ballots, for a total of 76,469 ballots cast. The county’s JARVIS participation report showed 41,370 election-day and 32,960 advance entries, producing small discrepancies staff attributed to vote-safe and supplemental registrations. Absentee-by-mail ballots totaled 2,133, which matched JARVIS.
“Turnout was 14.81%,” Director Phillips said, adding the county’s eligible voter list contained 516,365 names. He summarized provisional ballots: 50 provisional ballots were on file (33 Democratic, 17 Republican); staff determined 46 appeared to be out-of-precinct and a small number of provisional ballots remained unresolved at the time of the meeting.
A board member asked whether provisional ballots had been accepted or were still pending; Director Phillips said 50 provisional ballots had been counted and three had not counted, and that voters had until 5:00 p.m. that day to resolve outstanding provisional issues.
The board approved the meeting agenda on a motion and second, voting 5 to 0 to accept it. No other formal actions or votes were taken during the session.
Members briefly discussed whether an executive session was needed; a participant noted other counties are facing lawsuits but said Cobb County was not. Staff also announced the next certification meeting would be Tuesday, June 23 at 3:00 p.m. The June 23 meeting will be recorded and uploaded afterward but will not be livestreamed because of an IT conflict with the Board of Commissioners. A board member asked staff to request earlier delivery of the report so members would not have to wait weeks to receive it.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:06 p.m.
