Council Person Larson and planning staff reported on a well‑attended public meeting about the Clear Lake apartment proposal and summarized the primary community concerns and next steps.
Larson said he and Mayor Roberts attended the meeting and that the developer "was very receptive" to public questions. Residents raised wetlands and shoreline concerns as well as the proposal’s potential effects on lake use: meeting notes referenced a developer concept that included a roughly 500‑foot pier with six boat slips, which neighbors said could aggravate existing lake crowding. Larson said many residents also asked for more specifics on dock depth, traffic circulation and how potential visitors would access the lake.
Staff said neighborhood feedback highlighted three areas the developer should study before entitlement: traffic and egress for peak hours, shoreline/boat‑launch impacts including parking demand, and wildlife issues (staff noted reports of a possible bald eagle nest near the site). "There's going to have to be a lot of specifics," a staff speaker said, and the developer indicated willingness to research those points and return with answers at future hearings.
Separately, staff announced a farmers market will start June 20 (Saturdays, 8 a.m.–noon) funded by the Lions Club and hosted by the Rotary Club; staff also plans public‑engagement exercises at Arts in the Park late June/July to collect resident input about shoreline improvements and where a boat launch or performance stage should be sited.
What happens next: the Clear Lake multifamily item was moved to the July 8 planning commission agenda for further review; staff and the developer will undertake traffic, shoreline and wildlife analyses and report back to the commission.
