District previews 42,000‑sq‑ft CTE building concept, to seek architectural services and fundraising

Beatrice Public Schools administrators told the board committee on Jan. 22 they have been working with BCDM Architecture on preliminary plans for a career and technical education facility meant to house wood, auto, welding and related programs.
The current concept described to the committee is an approximately 42,000‑square‑foot metal building with a construction estimate in the $3–4 million range. Administrators said BCDM has submitted a proposed agreement for architectural services not to exceed $19,000; the administration expects to bring the agreement and preliminary drawings to the July board meeting for approval. “The current concept is for an approximate 42,000 square foot metal building with an estimated construction range from about 3 to 4 million,” an administrator said.
Administrators said the district will need to pursue private fundraising and foundation support in addition to any allowable uses of the district building fund to make the project viable. They noted the proposed site adjacent to the high school was chosen in part because utilities and hookups are already present and because the layout allows room for future program expansion, such as additional shop bays and spaces for plumbing or electrical programs.
Separately, the administration said it will bring a proposed purchase of a 10‑passenger transit van for board approval. The presentation listed a government price of $66,136. The transcript also included a quoted MSRP figure that appears to contain a transcription error; administrators said they will provide formal procurement paperwork and corrected numbers when the purchase is presented for approval.
No contractual approvals were taken at the committee meeting. Administrators said they will return with the architectural agreement and drawings in July and continue outreach to potential private funders.
