Desoto Co School Dist board approves 2026–27 budget, accepts Aztec Computers bid and authorizes vendor payments

The Desoto County School District board approved the 2026–27 budget as presented at the June 4 budget hearing, the board chair announced after a motion, second and voice vote.

The vote followed a presentation noting that general fund revenues through April stood at 328,437,711 — about 1% higher than FY25 figures — while all-funds revenues were reported at 368,768,879 (a 1% decrease versus FY25). The superintendent and finance staff said expenditures remain within budget projections.

In procurement business, Mr. Williams reported a reverse auction held June 5 for district netbook chargers and recommended accepting the lowest and best bid submitted by Aztec Computers. The board approved the recommendation by motion and voice vote.

The board also authorized payment to vendors in situations where services or commodities were provided before a purchase order was issued. A principal’s letter from Point Lake Middle School asking authorization to pay a vendor was approved after staff said the employee responsible received additional guidance on purchasing procedures. Similarly, Corn Lake High School requested authorization to pay invoices identified during a records review following a personnel transition; the board approved that request after staff described additional training and safeguards for bookkeepers.
