Council hears update: Maple Plain Fire Department joined West Suburban Fire District

The speaker said West Suburban is increasingly looked to as a mutual-aid partner by neighboring cities such as Plymouth and Brooklyn Park, which sometimes lack reserves or paid-on-call staffing to respond to large incidents.
"They're starting to look at each other as equals and and collaborate together on mutual aid," the speaker said, adding that the district is "doing a good job setting the new standard for the future." Council members were told to expect more updates throughout the year as the district addresses structure and operational issues.
