Snowflake council keeps old fire station in municipal use, moves forward on pool renovation

The Snowflake Town Council on Dec. 8 reviewed options for several town-owned buildings and opted to keep the old fire station in municipal use rather than lease it to a private gym operator. Council members said Mountain MultiFit had approached town staff about using the space, but the council concluded the building is better retained as a fire station for the time being.
Council members also discussed the Academy Building, considering whether the main floor could be leased to the local school or to office tenants. The council said the space would require repair before it could be leased; members asked that Divina Management, which is overseeing pool work, also inspect the Academy Building and report back on its condition and estimated costs.
On the municipal pool, the council heard that work managed by contractor Divina Management is underway: the roof has been shored up and the pool walls are reported sound. Meeting notes record that $80,000 has been paid so far on the project and that it remains possible to stop further work if the council chooses; at the meeting the council indicated it intends to continue with the planned renovation under the current arrangement.
Town staff also reported that Brian Richards will continue work on the town trail system; no further council action on trails was recorded.
The meeting began with a roll call of council members and town staff and adjourned at 6:43 p.m. No formal motions or votes on these items were recorded in the minutes.
