Area Agency on Aging describes $240,000 in local services and helpline for seniors

At the June 23 meeting the commission heard a presentation from the Area Agency on Aging of Broward County outlining its services and local impact.

Commissioner Romani introduced Charlotte Taylor, the agency’s chief executive, who described the agency’s mission to help residents remain in their homes and avoid early institutionalization. Taylor said the agency serves residents 60 and over (with some programs reaching 55+ for grandparent caregivers) and runs a local helpline, the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC), for information, referrals and Medicaid long-term care screening. She said the agency contracts with more than 40 providers to deliver some 55 services.

Taylor noted an approximate $240,000 in total funding or services provided to Dania Beach and highlighted programs that include in-home and congregate meals (special-diet options available), minor home repairs and ramps, respite and caregiver supports, Medicare SHINE unbiased counseling, veteran-directed care stipends, Alzheimer’s support, and technology-assisted socialization (tablet and AI companion programs). She repeated the presentation’s theme: “know us before you need us,” and gave the ADRC helpline (954-745-9779) and website (www.adrcbroward.org) for residents seeking assistance.

Commissioners thanked the agency and urged broad outreach so residents are aware of the services before they face crisis-level needs.

Next steps: commissioners and staff discussed continued partnership and outreach to ensure seniors in Dania Beach know how to access the agency’s programs.
